Playing With Blocks

writer's block - A usually temporary psychological inability to begin or continue work on a piece of writing.

W. Brugh Joy, M.D. wishes to announce that he is experiencing adult onset writer's block. This well-known temporary condition became evident recently when he found himself unable to write this first page of his latest Conference mailer. Although Dr. Joy's temperature, blood pressure, and other vital signs have remained normal and stable, he has shown evidence of Wide-Eyed Out-to-Lunch Syndrome, exhibiting such symptoms as Obsessive Compulsive Screen Staring and Over-Zealous Car Washing. Both of these behaviors are widely reputed to be unconscious substitutes for the type of spontaneous creative writing for which Dr. Joy has become justly famous through the essays and teaching stories he regularly presents on this page.

Reliable anonymous sources close to Dr. Joy report that, in commenting on his condition, he has offered this deep diagnostic insight into the nature of creativity itself: "When it's happening, it's happening. When it's not, it's not." Fortunately, Dr. Joy's ability to function creatively hasn't otherwise been affected, and he continues presenting his Conferences and Study Groups with the same legendary clarity and insight as always.

Dr. Joy invites everyone to examine his latest mailer for complete information about those Conferences and Study Groups, and he specifically wants to call attention to the following important additions and changes:

Two gatherings have been added in Europe: a Being with Brugh Conference in Germany (Kiel area) from August 28 to September 3, 1999 and a Weekend Study Group in England (Gloucester) from July 30 to August 2, 1999.

The two Dream Time Conferences originally scheduled for Palmetto, Georgia, have been cancelled. In their place, on those same dates at Palmetto, Being with Brugh Conferences will be held.

Two new cities (Chicago and Boston) have been added to the National Study Group schedule and a few date changes for other Study Groups have been made.

And Dr. Joy adds this reminder: three Conferences are being held in Hawaii in early 1999: Being with Brugh(January 1999), Dream Time(February 1999), and Sacred Space(February 1999).

Sincerely,

John Niendorff
